Conveyancing
Andre Leask has over seven years experience as a Conveyancer and Notary. The Firm handles conveyancing instructions both from local sources and national correspondents. We also leverage off our associate network, which includes the expertise of Sonja Lotz of RLDK (Somerset West), a conveyancer of some nine years standing and puts us in a position to accept bond instructions to act on behalf of the four major banks, being ABSA, Standard Bank, FNB and Nedbank. We also embrace, both in terms of its political aspirations and in our deeds as a Firm, the South African government’s Black Economic Empowerment initiatives. In this regard, the Firm currently benefits from a significantly well empowered associate, affiliate and correspondent networks and is currently in the process of further developing its BEE credentials.

Corporate & Commercial
Andre Leask has twelve years experience as a corporate and commercial attorney. This includes a wide diversity of experience, which includes the benefits of having practised for his own account in Johannesburg for over four years and from having worked for large corporates, including UK financial services sector exposure gained at premier New York investment banking giant, Morgan Stanley in London and household names in the retail sector, such as Nestle UK and Woolworths in South Africa. The Firm handles a broad range of commercial work, from private client work, such as trust and wills to corporate work, including registration of companies, trusts, to multi-national franchising, distribution and joint venture relationships.

Information Technology
Andre Leask is an information technology and intellectual property specialist, having gained more than six years' experience as a specialist IT legal advisor in both the local and international markets. This experience was gained largely in the international arena, at leading European law firm, DLA Piper Rudnick in London and leading multi-nationals, such as Morgan Stanley in the UK and Woolworths in South Africa. Andre is currently completing an LLM in Computers and Communications from the Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London and enjoys access to its associate network of academic experts. The Firm is therefore well placed to advise on the full spectrum of national and international information technology agreements, ranging from “vanilla” software licensing, support and maintenance, data licensing and consulting agreements to the more sophisticated systems and network services and support outsourcing, stock exchange trading and multi-national telecommunications distribution agreements. The Firm also advises on increasingly topical issues, such as the development of IT security and e-mail policies, employee monitoring, website compliance and ancillary matters.

English Law Matters
Andre Leask was admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court of England and Wales in 2000. Andre has five years experience of English legal practice, having practised in London from 1999 to 2004 as both a practising Solicitor and as a Legal Advisor. Andre primarily has advised in the areas of English property law, UK financial services law and English and European IT and intellectual property law, E-commerce law and general commercial law. Andre also has extensive experience in advising US and UK multi-nationals in these areas, particularly within the broader context of the UK financial services industry and is therefore well placed to advise UK and South African clients on cross-border relationships within these disciplines.
